Bharatiya Ekta Mandir in Phoenix welcomed a large gathering of devotees for Shri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations on Thursday, September 3, 2026, as the community came together for an evening filled with devotion, music, tradition and family participation.
The celebration was organized by the Indo-American Cultural and Religious Foundation of Arizona and Bharatiya Ekta Mandir at 2804 W. Maryland Ave. in Phoenix. The program was organized and chaired by Mr. Sudhir Kalra and Dayarambhai, with guidance from Subbu Uppuluri and Vikrambhai.
Devotees began arriving around 6:00 p.m., and by 7:30 p.m., attendance had grown to more than 1,200 people. The temple remained full throughout the evening as families, children, volunteers and community members participated in the sacred celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth.
Music, Children’s Parade and Maha Aarthi
The evening program began with a classical music concert by students of Dhivyadhwani School of Music, setting a devotional tone for the celebration. This was followed by a children’s parade, with young participants dressed as Radha and Krishna. The parade brought joy to families and helped younger generations connect with Hindu traditions in a meaningful and memorable way.
The priests then conducted Maha Aarthi, while devotees joined in chanting Shri Krishna bhajans. The atmosphere was filled with devotion as the community participated together in prayer and celebration.
Maha Prasadam Served to Devotees
A major highlight of the evening was the serving of Maha Prasadam to the large gathering. The prasadam was prepared and served with great dedication by Champaben, Damuben and Kantaben Patel, who helped provide food for the hundreds of families and devotees attending the event.
Their service, along with the efforts of many volunteers, played an important role in making the celebration successful and welcoming for all.
Bhajans, Abhishekam and Midnight Janma Pooja
Later in the evening, Jalaram Mandal led Shri Krishna bhajans, filling the mandir with devotion, energy and excitement.
The program continued with Balakrishna Abhishekam, Pooja and Archana, allowing devotees to participate in traditional rituals honoring Lord Krishna.
The celebration concluded after midnight with Janma Pooja Aarthi, followed by darshan and prasadam. Many devotees remained through the late-night rituals, reflecting the deep spiritual significance of Janmashtami.
Volunteers Make the Celebration Possible
Organizers expressed appreciation for the many volunteers who helped manage the large gathering, support the rituals, serve prasadam and assist families throughout the evening.
Events of this scale require careful coordination, and the dedication of volunteers helped ensure that the celebration remained organized, devotional and community-centered.
Passing Traditions to the Next Generation
Bharatiya Ekta Mandir’s Janmashtami celebration also served a larger purpose: helping younger generations understand and participate in Hindu traditions.
Through music, children’s involvement, bhajans, rituals and community service, the event created an environment where families could celebrate while passing cultural values to the next generation.
The devotion and participation of the community made the evening memorable and meaningful for all who attended.
