Gilbert, Arizona — Sai Dhyana Mandir in Gilbert hosted a devotional Lord Venkateswara Kalyanam celebration on Saturday, August 29, 2026, bringing together a large number of devotees for an evening of prayer, tradition and community participation. The temple was filled with devotees, and some attendees waited outside due to limited space, reflecting the strong devotion and enthusiasm of the community.
Sacred Ceremony Performed With Devotion
The Kalyanam was performed by temple priests Sri Sesha Acharyulu and Sri Ganesh Sharma, who led the rituals according to traditional Hindu customs.
The ceremony began with Vighneswara Puja, invoking Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles and bless the proceedings. This was followed by Punyahavachanam, a purification ritual performed to sanctify the space and invite divine blessings.
The priests then performed Maha Sankalpam and Pravara, formally invoking the lineage, gotra and divine attributes associated with Lord Venkateswara, Goddess Padmavati and Goddess Godadevi. These rituals established the spiritual foundation for the divine wedding ceremony.
Kanyadanam and Mangalya Dharana
One of the most important parts of the celebration was Kanyadanam, the sacred offering of the bride in the divine wedding tradition.
The ritual culminated in Mangalya Dharana, where the sacred thread, or Tali, was tied for Goddess Padmavati and Goddess Godadevi. Devotees joined in prayer as priests chanted Mangalashtakam, while Akshata, or blessed rice, was showered as a symbol of blessings, prosperity and divine grace.
Traditional Wedding Rituals
The Kalyanam also included Jeelakarra Bellam, a traditional ritual in which a paste made from cumin and jaggery is held as part of the wedding ceremony. The ritual symbolizes harmony, sweetness and the inseparable bond of the divine couple.
This was followed by Talambralu, during which Lord Venkateswara, Goddess Padmavati and Goddess Godadevi were showered with sacred rice mixed with turmeric and saffron. The joyful ritual represents abundance, prosperity and blessings for all devotees.
Aarti and Prasadam
The ceremony concluded with Maha Mangala Aarti, offered with devotion as attendees received blessings from the deities.
Following the aarti, Kalyana Prasadam was distributed to devotees, completing the celebration with a sense of spiritual fulfillment and community togetherness.
A Meaningful Community Gathering
The Lord Venkateswara Kalyanam at Sai Dhyana Mandir was not only a religious ceremony but also a meaningful gathering for families and devotees in the East Valley.
The large turnout reflected the community’s deep connection to Hindu traditions and the continued importance of temples as centers of worship, culture and shared spiritual life in Arizona.
